¡Aquí está! Gracias a la MARAVILLOSA Alicia Roy (vaya trabajazo has hecho, guapa), os puedo enseñar la que será la portada de mi libro. No sé a vosotros, pero a mí no me puede gustar más…

Os cuento también que:

  • El libro, si todo sale bien, saldrá en junio.
  • Ya tengo mi contrato y todo, y la primera tirada es de… ¡Mil ejemplares!

Mi primera reunión con mi editor/ My first meeting with my editor

Algunas personas tiran la toalla después de un fracaso. Se rinden. Prefieren dedicar su tiempo a otra cosa. Por suerte o por desgracia, yo no me encuentro entre esas personas. Yo aprendo. Lucho. Puedo caerme, pero siempre me levanto.

El sábado pasado, día 9 de mayo, me reuní con Diego Iturriaga, mi primer editor, quien sí va a apostar por mí y por mi libro, y me dio su palabra de que “Las bufandas de Lina y otros cuentos animalados” va a ver la luz muy, muy pronto. Su editorial se llama “Endymion” .Gracias, Diego, de corazón.

No había lugar más apropiado que la Biblioteca Británica 🙂

La cuenta atrás ya ha comenzado… Os seguiré contando.

Last Saturday, May 9th, I had my first meeting with Diego Iturriaga, my first editor, and he is going to bet for me and for my book, and he gave my his word: “Lina’s scarves and other animalated tales” is going to see the light very soon. His publishing house is called “Endymion”. Thanks, Diego, from the bottom of my heart.

There was not a more appropiated location than the British Library 🙂

Voy a ser muy, muy breve con esta entrada… Solo quiero deciros a todos y a todas los que estáis ahí que (como dice el título), por fin (por fin, por fin)… ¡Me van a publicar! No voy a dar más información básicamente porque no la tengo, pero es firme y en una o dos semanas me reúno con mi editor. Lo único que puedo deciros es que va a ser el libro de «Las bufandas de Lina y otros cuentos animalados» y daros un millón de gracias por todo el apoyo que me habéis dado siempre.

I am going to be very, very quick with this post… I just want to tell all of you that (as the title says), at last (at last, at last)… I am going to get published! I am not going to give you more information basically because I don’t have it, but is firm and in one or two weeks I will have a meeting with my editor. The only thing I can tell you is that it is going to be «Lina’s scarves and other animalated tales», and thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the support you have always given me.

Cambios en el blog/ Some changes on the blog

Sí, lo sé, llevo dos semanas sin publicar una entrada, pero es por varios motivos. El primero, que estaba de vacaciones y necesitaba desconectar. El segundo, que he decidido cambiar el funcionamiento del blog. Por motivos laborales (estoy hasta arriba de trabajo) y porque creo que es lo mejor, he decidido que no voy a publicar una entrada cada semana, sino cuando tenga algo importante que contaros. Por eso, os pido perdón y, al mismo tiempo, paciencia.

Espero que me entendáis y que me leáis con más ganas todavía cada vez que suba una entrada.

Yes, I know, I haven’t posted anything in two weeks, but it is due to some reasons. First, I have been on holidays and I needed some time for myself. Second, I have decided to change the way I post. For working reasons (I am completely overwhelmed), I am not going to publish a post every week, but when I have something important to tell you. I apologise for that, bear it with me.

Día Internacional del Libro Infantil y Juvenil/ International Day of Children and YA’s Book

El día 2 de abril (coincidiendo con el cumpleaños de mi hermano) se celebra el Día Internacional del Libro Infantil y Juvenil. ¿Por qué este día? Porque se conmemora el aniversario del nacimiento del genial Hans Christian Andersen, maestro de todos los que queremos hacernos un hueco en la literatura infantil. Llego tarde, lo sé, pero esta semana ha sido bastante completa por muchas razones, algunas de las cuales os explicaré pronto.

La literatura infantil y juvenil… Considerada por muchos como un subgénero de menor importancia que la literatura “adulta”. No sé vosotros, pero yo estoy totalmente en contra por varios motivos, como ya dije en la entrada Fantástica Fantasía .

Por eso, prefiero no categorizar los distintos tipos de literatura que hay. Yo he leído libros para adultos cuando era niño y joven y ahora leo libros infantiles y juveniles, y he disfrutado y disfruto tanto los unos como los otros. Por lo tanto… ¡Viva la literatura! Y, por supuesto, ¡viva la literatura infantil y juvenil!

In April, 2nd (same date as my brother’s birthday) we celebrate the World Children and YA’s Book Day. Why? Because it is also Hans Christian Andersen’s date of birth, one of the masters of everyone who wants to become a children or YA’s author. I am a bit late, I know, but this week has been quite busy, I’ll let you know what’s happened as soon as I can.

Children and YA’s literature… Considered by some people as something less important than “adult’s” literature. I don’t know what your opinion is, but I completely disagree for several reasons, as I already said on the post Fantastic Fantasy.

For that reason, I prefer not to classify the different kinds of literature that we can find. I have read books for adults when I was a child and now I read children and YA’s books, and I have enjoyed and enjoy both. So… Long life to literature! And, of course, long life to children and YA’s literature!

Educación, literatura y videoconferencia/ Education, literature and videoconference

Un nuevo autor ha venido hoy a mi instituto, y he vuelto a disfrutar de dos de mis mayores pasiones a la vez: la educación y la literatura. Además, también se ha unido la videoconferencia, así que esta entrada era obligatoria.

El autor ha sido Dan Freedman, escritor de varios libros relacionados con el fútbol. Quizás el fútbol no es precisamente un tema sobre el que yo escribiría, pero Dan ha dado una razón más que suficiente para hacerlo: el fútbol es su mayor pasión. Escribe sobre lo que le gusta, añadiendo vivencias propias y tratando temas tan actuales como el acoso escolar. Y parece que no le va mal del todo.

Me ha recordado un poco a la saga «Sara y las goleadoras«, de Laura Gallego. Unos libros que, sinceramente, no creo que lea, pero que están en las librerías españolas desde hace ya tiempo.

No obstante, dicen que de todo se aprende, ¿no? Por lo que pueda pasar, yo sigo apuntando ideas en mi libreta, para el día en que sean mis libros los que estén en las librerías y bibliotecas y sea yo el que vaya a dar charlas a centros escolares.

A new author has come to my school today, and I have enjoyed two of my passions at the same time again: education and literature. Also, videoconferencing is been envolved, so this post was something mandatory.

The author has been Dan Freedman, writer of some books related to football. Maybe football is not exactly a topic that I would write about, but Dan has given the right reason to do so: football is his biggest passion. He writes about what he likes, adding some of his own experiences and talking about issues as factual as bullying. And it seems he is doing pretty well.

It has reminded me of Laura Gallego‘s saga «Sara and the goal scorers«. A saga that, being honest, I don’t think I’ll read, but that you can find in Spanish book shops.

However, they say you can always learn something new, don’t they? Just in case, I keep writing down every idea in my notebook, so I can use them the day my books will be in book shops and libraries and I will be the one going to talk about them to different schools.

¿Una de mis películas favoritas, de mi director favorito, hecha musical? ¡No podía perdérmelo! Quería ver el musical de Billy Elliot desde que llegué a Londres, y ha sido tal y como lo esperaba: espectacular. 

Me he reído, he llorado, me he cargado de energía con los bailes… ¡Y hasta he entendido el acento del norte! Un musical muy completo con un reparto buenísimo (el niño es una pasada) y, como siempre, en la mejor compañía.

Sin lugar a dudas, la oferta cultural de esta ciudad es envidiable, quizás es que aquí se preocupen un poco más por la cultura de lo que se preocupan ahora mismo en España…

¡Totalmente recomendable!

One of my favourite movies, from my favourite director, made a musical? I couldn’t miss it! I wanted to see Billy Elliot‘s musical since I came to London, and it has been just as I had imagined: awesome.

I have laughed, I have cried and I have filled myself with a lot of energy… And I have understood the northern accent! A very complete musical with a very good cast (the kid is outstanding) and, as always, in the best company.

Without a doubt, cultural offer in London is enviable, maybe it is that here they care about culture more than they do now in Spain… 

Highly reccomended!

Creciendo profesionalmente/ Growing professionally

Tras haberos introducido el nuevo trabajo que empecé en septiembre (recordad esta entrada: “Mi nuevo trabajo”), puedo daros un poco más de información. Finalmente, después de mucho esfuerzo, nos hicimos con el proyecto final, y en abril empezaremos un nuevo curso con más clases y, por lo tanto, más niños y niñas en los que volcar nuestro saber y nuestro cariño a través de la pantalla. ¿Qué es exactamente lo que hacemos? Enseñar inglés a colegios de primaria en Uruguay a través de videoconferencia. Dicho de otra manera, nuestros alumnos están en distintos lugares de Uruguay y nosotros, desde Londres, les damos clases de inglés. Suena raro, lo sé, pero funciona. Estamos muy orgullosos de decir que nuestros alumnos han mejorado mucho y que, al menos yo, aprendo muchísimo día tras día. Ahora estamos frente al reto de afrontar un curso entero y, en mi caso, no solo como “profesor remoto”, que es como nos llaman, sino también como coordinador del proyecto, algo que llevo haciendo prácticamente desde que empecé. Lo cierto es que da gusto trabajar en lo que me gusta con un equipo tan maravilloso como el que tengo. Finally, after having told you a Little bit about the job I started in September (remember that post: “My new job”), I can give you some more details about it. After a lot of effort, we got the final project, so we will be starting a new year in April with more groups and, so, more students in which we’ll pour our knowledge and our love through a screen. What do we do, exactly? We teach English to primary schools in Uruguay through videoconference. In other words, our students are in several places in Uruguay and we, from London, teach them English. It sounds a bit weird, I know, but it works. We are very proud to say that our students have improved a lot and that I learn so many things day after day. Now we are going to face the challenge of teaching during a whole scholar year and, in my case, not only as a “remote teacher”, but also as the co-ordinator of the project, something that I have been doing since I started. The truth is that it is nice to work with such a wonderful team. For those who want to know a bit more about us, here you go the brand new website we have just made,  hope you like it!

Leer con el corazón/ Reading with the heart

¿Sabéis esos libros que te atrapan desde la primera página? ¿Esos que de verdad disfrutas, que se te quedan dentro? Yo acabo de descubrir uno. Me lo trajeron los Reyes Magos y, como siempre, acertaron totalmente: «La ladrona de libros«, de Markus Zusak. Una auténtica delicia.

Probablemente lo conozcáis porque se ha hecho la película hace poco pero, aun gustándome mucho el cine, dudo que sea mejor que el libro. Por cómo está escrito, por lo original en la forma, por el lenguaje… Es de esos libros que tienes que leer despacito para disfrutar de cada palabra, de cada frase… ¿Os ha pasado alguna vez?

Además, los libros se presentan como el mejor regalo del mundo… ¿Qué más se puede pedir? Os lo recomiendo a todos y a todas, estoy seguro de que os gustará tanto como a mí.

Do you know those books that catch your attention from the first page? Those that you really enjoy, that stay inside of you? I have just found one out. It was a present from the Three Wise Men and, as they always do, they hit the target: «The book thief«, by Markus Zusak. A complete delight.

You’ll probably heard about it because they have made a movie recently but, even if I like movies a lot, I doubt that it is as good as the book. Because of the way it has been written, because of its originality, because of the language… It is one of those books that you have to read very slowly to enjoy every word, every sentence… Has it ever happened to you as well?

Furthermore, books are presented as the best of the presents in the world… What else can we ask for? I reccomend you all to read it, I am sure you will like it as well as I do.

Un equipo que acaba de empezar/ A team that has just started

Ya la conocéis. Os he hablado de ella varias veces, incluso en la última entrada. Es Alicia Roy. Y desde hace un tiempo, somos pareja. Noooo, no pareja sentimental, sino profesional. Desde que trabajamos juntos por primera vez, supe que nuestra relación duraría mucho, mucho tiempo.

No es solo que sea una maravillosa artista, sino que entiende mis palabras a la perfección. Estoy deseando que todos podáis ver el resultado, porque estoy seguro de que no va a dejar a nadie indiferente. Por eso, estamos ya metidos en dos proyectos juntos. Uno que ya conocéis y otro en el que acabamos de embarcarnos y del que ya os hablaré cuando corresponda.

You know her already. I have written about her in several occasions, including last week. I am talking about Alicia Roy. And I have to tell you that, since some time, we are a couple. Noooo, not a sentimental couple, but a professional one. Since we first worked together, I knew our relationship was going to last a lot of time.

It is not just that she is a wonderful artist, but she also understands my words perfectly. I can’t wait for you to see the result, because I am sure that nobody will remain indifferent. Because of that, we are involved in two projects together. You know one of them already, and I will tell you about the other one when it comes to that.
