¿Una de mis películas favoritas, de mi director favorito, hecha musical? ¡No podía perdérmelo! Quería ver el musical de Billy Elliot desde que llegué a Londres, y ha sido tal y como lo esperaba: espectacular. 

Me he reído, he llorado, me he cargado de energía con los bailes… ¡Y hasta he entendido el acento del norte! Un musical muy completo con un reparto buenísimo (el niño es una pasada) y, como siempre, en la mejor compañía.

Sin lugar a dudas, la oferta cultural de esta ciudad es envidiable, quizás es que aquí se preocupen un poco más por la cultura de lo que se preocupan ahora mismo en España…

¡Totalmente recomendable!

One of my favourite movies, from my favourite director, made a musical? I couldn’t miss it! I wanted to see Billy Elliot‘s musical since I came to London, and it has been just as I had imagined: awesome.

I have laughed, I have cried and I have filled myself with a lot of energy… And I have understood the northern accent! A very complete musical with a very good cast (the kid is outstanding) and, as always, in the best company.

Without a doubt, cultural offer in London is enviable, maybe it is that here they care about culture more than they do now in Spain… 

Highly reccomended!

Oh, yo voy a ser el Rey León…/ Oh, I just can’t wait to be king

No ha pasado mucho tiempo y ya he tenido el gusto de ver otro musical en Londres. Esta vez, uno de los que siempre he querido ver: El rey león.

Muchos lo habréis visto, quizás en mi querido Madrid, y sabréis cómo es. Tratando de ser objetivo, diré que las voces no me impresionaron como las de otros espectáculos (ese “Defying gravity” en Wicked, por ejemplo), pero la puesta en escena… Qué originalidad en los decorados, en el vestuario, en el maquillaje, en la forma de crear animales con humanos… PRECIOSO. Y las canciones son geniales y me las sabía todas, claro.

Es increíble lo mucho que da de sí el universo Disney. Me han chivado que van a traer el musical de Aladdin a Londres y, solo de pensarlo, me encanta. Eso por no decir cómo va a ser el día que hagan el musical de Frozen, con lo que mueve esa película, la banda sonora que tiene y la puesta en escena que pueden montar…

It has not taken too long and I have had the pleasure of seeing another musical in London already. This time, one that I have always wanted to see: The lion king.

Maybe some of you have seen it as well, in Madrid, perhaps, so you will know how it is. Trying to be objective, I would say that the voices did not impress me the same way some from other shows have done (“Defying gravity” from Wicked, for instance), but the staging… Such an original set, wardrobe, make-up… The way they create animals with human beings… BEAUTIFUL. And the songs are amazing and I knew all of them, of course.

It is incredible how the Disney universe keeps always catching out attention. I have been told that they are bringing the musical of Aladdin to London and I love the idea just thinking about it. Not to say anything about the day when they’ll do the musical of Frozen, a movie that still generates a lot of benefits, its soundtrack and the staging they could create…

Cuando se trata de arte/ When it’s all about art

Sí, me gusta el arte, en prácticamente todas sus vertientes y, por suerte, Londres es una ciudad donde el arte se encuentra en cada esquina. Siempre pasa de todo: exposiciones, obras de teatro, conciertos y… Musicales. Me encantan los musicales. Mezclar el teatro con la música es una de las ideas más brillantes que la humanidad ha tenido, así que, cuando puedo, intento colarme en alguno.

El último que he visto es Miss Saigon, una historia ambientada en la Guerra del Vietnam con los ingredientes que os imaginaréis. Soldados americanos. Chicas vietnamitas que quieren abandonar su país en brazos de algún militar. Celos. Lágrimas. Y canciones. Canciones genialmente interpretadas por todos los actores.

Quizás es mi opinión, pero creo que cuando una ciudad ofrece una variedad tan amplia de eventos culturales, se convierte inmediatamente en una ciudad mejor. Sin ninguna duda, es una de las cosas que más me gustan de estar viviendo aquí.

Y el siguiente será… ¿Matilda? ¿Billy Elliot? ¿Charlie y la fábrica de chocolate? Os mantendré informados…

Yes, I like art, no matter the discipline and, good for me, London is a city where art is everywhere. There is always something going on: exhibitions, theatre plays, concerts and… Musicals. I love musicals. Putting together theatre and music is been one of the smartest ideas of humanity so, every time I can, I book a ticket.

The last one I’ve seen is Miss Saigon, a story that happens in Vietnam War, with the ingredients that you would guess. American soldiers. Vietnamese girls that want to run away from their country in the Americans arms. Jealousy. Tears. And songs. Songs perfectly performed by all of the actors.

Maybe it is my opinion, but I think that, when a city offers such a huge variety of cultural events, it immediately becomes a better city. Without any doubt, it is one of the things that I like the most of living here.

And the next one will be… Matilda? Billy Elliot? Charlie and the chocolate factory? I’ll keep you updated…

Wicked!

Pues sí, la entrada de esta semana va sobre el musical «Wicked«, al que fui anteayer con mi amiga Belén. Desde que llegué a Londres, una de las cosas que tenía que hacer sí o sí era ir a verlo, y por fin, lo cumplí.

Será la historia. Serán las canciones. Será por Glee. El caso es que me encantó y que disfrutamos como dos enanos desde el principio hasta el final, especialmente, cuando cantaron «Defying gravity«.

Brujas, animales que hablan, magia, poesía… Y mi cabeza ya daba vueltas pensando en alguna historia que pudiera escribir en el futuro con alguna de esas cosas. Y ya tomé algunas notas mentales con ideas sobre una posible historia, con rima, con magia y, como siempre, llena de ilusión.

A veces, tener una experiencia creativa te empuja a ser creativo, y Wicked fue una experiencia única e inolvidable que, además de disfrutar, me inspiró para un nuevo posible proyecto…

So, yes, the post of this week is about «Wicked«, the musical, my plan for last Monday with my friend Belén. Since I came to London, one of the things I knew I should do was going to watch it, so, finally, I did it.

Maybe it is the story. Maybe, the songs. Maybe it is because of Glee. The thing is that I loved it and we enjoyed like two kids from the first word to the last one, specially when they sang «Defying gravity«.

Witches, animals that can talk, magic, poetry… And my head was thinking about some story that I could write in the future with some of these elements. And I took some mental notes with ideas for a possible story, with rhyme, with magic and, as I always do, full of illusion.

Sometimes, having a creative experience pulls you to be creative, and Wicked was a unique and unforgettable experience that, apart from been enjoyed, it also inspired me to start a new project…
