¡Ya estoy de vuelta!

Esta entrada va destinada a disculparme, a contaros cómo va el proceso de “El destino de Tamarán” y a comentaros cositas sobre el blog.

Lo primero, pediros perdón por la tardanza en retomar el blog. La última revisión del libro me supuso un esfuerzo ingente y, entre eso y otras obligaciones, necesitaba descansar un poco.

En cuanto a Tamarán, tal y como quería, dejé todo enviado antes de que terminara el mes de enero (libro revisado, ilustraciones, textos para la contra, biografías, agradecimientos…), así que ya solo queda esperar a que maqueten e impriman. Os daría una fecha, pero prefiero ser cauto y avisaros cuando ya sea definitiva (sorry!).

Este tiempo también lo he empleado en pensar cómo puedo mejorar el blog. Siguiendo consejos y espiando algunos a algunos blogueros tengo algunas ideas (reseñas, algún vídeo, consejos literarios…). Quiero intentar hacerlo más atractivo para vosotros, así que espero acertar.

Nada más por el momento. Os iré informando de las novedades sobre Tamarán, que ya está a punto de caramelo ¡y aún no me lo creo!

I am back!

I am using this post to apologize with you, to tell you about how “The destiny of Tamarán” goes and to share with you some things about the blog.

First, please forgive me for taking such a long break. The last revision of the book has been exhausting and due to some other obligations, I needed to relax for a little while.

About Tamarán, just as I wanted to do, I sent it all before February (book, illustrations, texts for the cover, biographies, appreciations…), so now we just need to wait until it gets edited and printed. I would love to give you a date, but I prefer to be careful and wait until I’ve got something definitive.

I’ve used this break also to think about how to improve my blog. Following some advices and spying some other bloggers I’ve got some ideas (reviews, some videos, writing advices…). I want to try to make it catchier for you, so I hope I can make it.

Nothing else so far. I will keep you updated about Tamarán, I can’t wait to have it with me!

El bloqueo/ The mental block

Estás escribiendo con cierta asiduidad, parece que todo va bien pero, sin esperártelo, te viene el bloqueo y no sabes cómo continuar.

Aquí importa saber qué tipo de escritor eres. Puede que seas un escritor de brújula, es decir, que escribas la historia del tirón sin haber planificado antes; o puede que seas un escritor de mapa y que, antes de ponerte a escribir, hayas planificado cada detalle de la historia de la forma más minuciosa posible.

Si eres de los que planifican, estos bloqueos te ocurrirán menos o, de ocurrir, tendrás más fácil solventarlos. En cambio, si no tienes detalles de lo que va a ocurrir, comprobarás que te bloquearás incluso más de una vez.

¿Consejos? Muchos, me temo. Como ya os dije, yo escribí “El destino de Tamarán: Los reinos incógnitos” sin mapa y con una brújula recién adquirida y sin manual de instrucciones, así que me bloqueé en varias ocasiones. ¿Qué hice? Dejar que la historia reposara para, desde “lejos”, seguir pensando en ella. Hay veces en las que estar metido en medio de la tormenta nos impide ver las gotas de lluvia. Desde esa distancia, es más sencillo aclararse. Mientras pensáis, leed. Buscad historias que entren en el género que estáis escribiendo (a mí me vinieron genial las “Crónicas de Elric de Melniboné”, de Moorcock, y “La historia interminable”, de mi querido Ende). Buscad también blogs que os puedan ayudar, que nunca está de más. Por último, si veis que esa no es vuestra forma de escribir, pensad en haceros expertos en mapas… ¡Puede que sea la solución!

You are writing with some assiduity, it seems like it is working but, without even expecting so, you get a mental block and you don’t know how to keep writing.

Now is when we see the kind of writer you are. You can be a compass writer, so you write the story all at once without planning anything; or you can be a map writer and, before starting to write, you plan every single aspect of the story.

If you are in the second group, these blocks will happen less frequently or, in case they happen, it will be easier for you to sort them out. If you haven’t got any details of what will take place in your story, you will find these blocks quite often.

Advices? Many, I am afraid. As I told you, I wrote “The destiny of Tamarán: The incognito kingdoms” without any maps and with a just acquired compass without instructions, so I got blocked several times. What did I do? Leave the story breathe and, from “ouside”, keep thinking about it. Sometimes being in the middle of the storm doesn’t allow us to see the drops or rain. From the distance it is easier to see it clear. While you are doing this, read. Find stories with something to do with yours (I really appreciated reading “Elric of Melniboné’s chronicles”, by Moorcock, and “The neverending story”, by my beloved Ende). Find some blogs as well, it can help very much.

Last, but not least, if you find out that being a compass writer is not your thing, think about becoming experts on maps… It can be the solution!

Vencer a la página en blanco/ Beating the blank page

Muy bien. Hemos organizado las ideas y estamos dispuestos a vencer  a la página en blanco. Tranquilos, si habéis hecho bien las cosas, empezaréis pronto a llenarla de letras.

Al igual que siempre se aconseja leer mucho si queremos ser escritores. Otro consejo una vez que empecemos a escribir es ese mismo. Escribir. No importa que no nos salga perfecto, que nos atoremos, que nos equivoquemos. Tendréis tiempo de enmendar esos errores. Lo que cuenta es ser constantes (eso es, desde mi punto de vista, lo más complicado de escribir: la constancia). Escribir un poco cada día y no perder el hilo de la historia. Si no escribís a diario, creedme (lo sé) de que os vais a arrepentir.

La historia, si la tenéis más o menos clara y más o menos organizada, irá saliendo.

It’s always recommended to read a lot if we want to become authors. Another advice once we start writing is that very same. Writing. It doesn’t matter if it is not perfect, if we get stuck or if we make mistakes. You will have time to correct all of them. What matters is being constant (that is, from my point of view, the most difficult thing when you write: perseverance). Writing a little bit every day and not losing the thread of the story. If you don’t write every day, believe me (I know it), you will regret.

The story, if you have it more or less clear and more or less organised, will go on.

¿De dónde vienen las ideas?/ Where do the ideas come from?

A veces me preguntan que cómo se me ha ocurrido escribir las historias que escribo, cuál ha sido la razón para escribir un determinado texto.

¿De dónde sacas las ideas? Pues, a veces, se me ocurre una sola frase y la dejo reposar hasta que encuentro cómo incluirla en una historia. Otras veces es un personaje. O un diálogo. O una imagen. Hay poemas que he escrito a partir de un solo verso. Novelas que salen de un sueño. Cuentos que aparecen gracias a un peluche.

Lo importante es tener los ojos y los oídos bien abiertos para empaparse de todo lo que ocurre a nuestro alrededor. Cualquier detalle puede ser el inicio de una buena historia.

Sometimes people ask me how I can write the stories that I write, what was the reason to write a specific text.

Where do you get the ideas from? Well, sometimes, it is just one sentence that I let there until I find how to include it in a story. Other times it is a character. A dialogue. Or an image. I have written some poems from a single verse. Novels that start with a dream. Tales that appear thanks to a soft toy.

The most important thing is to keep eyes and ears wide open so we can absorb everything that is surrounding us. Any detail could be the beginning of a nice story.

Compartiendo creatividad/ Sharing creativity

Por suerte, tengo bastantes amigos y comparto con muchos de ellos algo que en mi vida es muy importante: la creatividad. Algunos escriben poesía, otros dibujan, otros escriben canciones y/ o cantan… Y para mí, que siempre estoy dándole vueltas a las ideas que se me van ocurriendo, quedar con ellos para compartir ese flujo de creatividad que cada uno tiene me parece un plan genial.

Producto de esas amistades y de esas reuniones improvisadas salen nuevos proyectos, nuevas ideas y muchas, muchas risas. El último ejemplo viene de la mano de El oráculo de Bacon, y ya veréis que esta es una entrada que no tiene mucho que ver con las que normalmente publico… Aun así, espero que os guste la sorpresa y que os sirva para reíros un rato (aunque sea de mí), que nunca está de más echarle un poco de amor a la vida 🙂

I am very lucky because I have a lot of friends and because I share with the most of them something that is very important in my life: creativity. Some of them write poems, some draw, some others write songs and/ or sing… And, for me, always messing around with the ideas that I have, meeting them to share that flow of creativity that each one has is a nice plan.

As a product of these friendships and these improvised meetings we have new projects, new ideas and many, many laughs. The last example comes from El oráculo de Bacon, and you will see that it is a post that has nothing to do with with the posts I normally publish… Even if it is like this, I hope you´ll enjoy the surprise and that you’ll find it funny, even if you laugh at me, because it is always a good thing to face life with a good sense of humour 🙂
