Un poco de ayuda/ A little help

Ahora que “El destino de Tamarán” está terminado, he puesto a “trabajar” a mis correctores oficiales… David ya hizo una revisión a fondo que me ayudó muchísimo. Manuel también hizo lo propio, dándome consejos (como siempre) utilísimos. Almudena. Mónica. Sara. Felipe. Y, por supuesto, mi primera lectora… ¡Mi madre!

Después de la paliza mental que supone terminar cualquier texto, es normal que muchos errores, ya sean ortográficos, de estilo o de cualquier tipo, así que es muy aconsejable que unos ojos ajenos le echen un vistazo con papel y boli a mano para ir anotando lo que encuentren.

Creedme, aunque penséis que vuestros textos estén perfectos y sepáis que vosotros mismos los habéis revisado un millón de veces, seguirá habiendo errores que no podréis ver. Vuestros amigos o familiares, si están dispuestos, os ayudarán a encontrarlos.

Vosotros lo agradeceréis, vuestros textos, también, y si vuestra idea es mandarlo a alguna editorial, seguro que todo estará mucho más correcto y que también lo agradecerán.

Así que, ya sabéis, escribid, revisad y sobornad a vuestros allegados para que ofrezcan un poco de ayuda. Seguro que ellos, aunque no os lo digan, también os lo agradecen.

Now that “El destino de Tamarán” is finished, my oficial correctors are “working” on it… David made an intensive revision that helped a lot. Manuel also revised it, giving me some advises as useful as always. Almudena. Mónica. Sara. Felipe. And, of course, my first reader… My mum!

After the mental fatigue due to finishing a text, it is normal that many mistakes, ortographical, of stile or any other type, so it is very recomendable that other eyes can take a look at it with a pen and some paper to write down everything they find out.

Believe me, even if you think that your texts are perfect and you have revised them a million times, there will be some erros still that you will not be able to see. Your friends or family, if they want to do it, will help you to find them out.

You will be welcome, your texts will be as well, and, if your idea is sending them to a publishing house, you can be sure that they will be more correct and the editors will be welcome too.

So, write, revise the texts and blackmail your closest friends or family members to offer you a little help. They will be welcome as well, even if they do not say it.

World Book Day

No, no estoy loco. Aquí, en Reino Unido, el Día Mundial del libro se celebra el primer jueves de marzo, así que este año voy a tener la suerte de vivir dos «Días del libro», el de aquí la semana pasada y el del 23 de abril en Madrid. Como dirían aquí, «basically», se trata de una iniciativa que consiste en que, además de fomentar la lectura y, como veis en la foto, disfrazarse de personajes literarios en los centros educativos, el gobierno da un cheque de una libra a cada niño escolarizado que podrá canjear en cualquier librería del país. Una iniciativa muy, muy buena, ¿no creéis?

Desde mi punto de vista, como ya sabéis, cualquier idea, acción o palabra que ayude a fomentar la lectura, sobre todo si hablamos de niños, es válida siempre que, realmente, se acerque la lectura a los más pequeños. Con una iniciativa como esta, seguro que muchísimos libros llegan a muchísimos hogares, además de la necesaria visita a una librería, que siempre es un viaje precioso, al menos para mí.

Por este motivo, mi amiga Linda Hayes, la fabulosa bibliotecaria del instituto en el que trabajo, jaleada por la no menos encantadora Deborah Ford (thanks for being so kind to me since the first day!) me liaron para que me difrazara con ellas. Hasta el punto que Miss Hayes me persuadió para que fuera su pareja e, incluso, encargó mi disfraz para que no me escaqueara. Ella iba de Cleopatra, a mí me tocó ponerme una toga y una corona de laurel dorado, toda una pareja histórica.

Por el instituto pasaron personajes como el Sombrerero Loco o el conejo de Alicia en el País de las Maravillas; «The cat in the hat»; Katnis Everdeen, de Los Juegos del hambre, o la mismísima Lisbeth Salander, de la saga Millenium. Puede parecer una tontería, pero con el simple hecho de que algunos profesores fueran por un día esos personajes hizo que todos los alumnos tuvieran en mente la literatura, ¿no creéis que es un motivo más que suficiente? La verdad es que yo disfruté como un enano…

¿A alguno se le ocurren ideas para fomentar la lectura en días como este? ¡Un abrazo para todos!

No, I am not crazy. Here, in the UK, the World Book Day takes places on the first Thursday in March, so this year I am having the chance of living two World Book Days, the one here and next April, 23rd in Madrid. As they use to say here, “basically”, it is an initiative that consists in, apart from promoting reading and, as you can see in the picture below, wearing some literature character fancy dress in the educative centres, the Government gives a one pound gift check to every student, so he or she will be able to exchange it in any book shop. A very, very good initiative, don’t you think?

From my point of view, as you know, any idea, act or word that helps to promote reading, even more if we are talking about kids, is acceptable if, really, it brings reading closer to boys and girls. With an initiative like this one, I am sure that a lot of books will arrive to the British homes, besides the fact of the visit to a book shop, always a wonderful trip, at least for me.

For that reason, mi friend Linda Hayes, the fabulous Learning Resource Centre Manager at my high school, cheered by the lovely Deborah Ford (thanks for being so kind to me since the first day!) got me embroiled so I wore a fancy dress that day. Miss Hayes persuaded me to be her couple and, also, she ordered my dress. She was Cleopatra, I had to wear a toga and a golden laurel wreath, such a historic couple, by the way.

We could meet characters like The Crazy Hatter or the rabbit of Alice in Wonderland; The cat in the hat; Katniss Everdeen, from The hunger Games, or Lisbeth Salander, from Millenium. Maybe it seems a stupid thing, but the only fact that some teachers were wearing a fancy dress just for one day made that all the students could have literature in their minds, don’t you think that it is absolutely worth it? The truth is that I enjoyed like a baby…

Does anybody have any idea to promote reading in days like this? Hugs for everybody!

Books for Christmas!

Aún a la espera de conocer fechas (y armándome de paciencia), y ya en mi amada Madrid para pasar estas fiestas tan especiales entre familia y amigos, quiero, en esta entrada, romper una lanza a favor de un regalo no siempre deseado por todos…

Algunos habréis visto el vídeo aquel de… «Books? Books for Christmas??» ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sv4Hpz-GI3g ), en el que un pequeño se queja por haber recibido libros como regalo de Navidad. La verdad es que el vídeo es gracioso, pero a mí me da un poco de pena que, en muchas ocasiones, los libros no se vean como un buen regalo por los niños.

Estoy seguro de que tanto Papá Noel como Sus Majestades,  los Reyes Magos, habrán visitado ya un montón de librerías infantiles como El dragón lector, Kirikú y la bruja, Venir a cuento y otras muchas librerías en las que la magia de los libros puede respirarse y te invade el corazón de letras, colores y personajes maravillosos. No solo eso, seguro que también han podido asistir a una de las muchas actividades que organizan durante estas vacaciones para los más peques (y no tan peques).

Siempre he defendido, y lo seguiré haciendo, la importancia que la lectura tiene en la vida y que, cuanto antes empecemos a leer, mayores serán los beneficios que nos aporte. Por eso, queridos «regaladores», os animo a que, durante la vorágine de las compras navideñas, os deis un paseo entre libros y que, sean para la edad que sean, los tengáis en consideración para el 25 de diciembre y el 6 de enero. Y, por supuesto, si llegamos a tiempo con «Las bufanas de Lina y otros cuentos animalados», os aseguro que lo disfrutaréis.
