Son muchos años ya los que han pasado desde que conocí a Manuel Francisco Reina y muchos los momentos que hemos compartido.

Muchos también son los libros que lleva a sus espaldas. Poesía, teatro, ensayo, novelas, antologías… Para mí, como le he dicho varias veces, es un poeta. No porque su poesía sea la más bonita del panorama nacional (como poco), que lo es, sino porque poetiza todo lo que escribe. Si no me creéis, leed cualquiera de sus libros, como “Los amores oscuros”, “La coartada de Antínoo” o “La emperatriz amarga”.

Pero esta entrada es para hablar de otro libro, el último que ha escrito: “La princesa Paca”, novela que narra la historia de amor entre Rubén Darío y Francisca Sánchez, abuela de Rosa Villacastín, que también firma el libro. Yo lo tengo esperándome, con una dedicatoria tan bonita como la que veis.

Es amigo por ser una persona maravillosa; es un artista porque escribe de maravilla. No lo dejéis pasar, es ya el libro del año y tenéis mi palabra de que os va a emocionar. Y a los que, como yo, intentéis escribir, solo leer a Manuel es como tomar una clase magistral de cómo trabajar con el lenguaje.

Many years have gone by since the first time I met Manuel Francisco Reina, and many moments that we have shared.

Many, as well, are the books that he has written. Poetry, theatre plays, essays, novels, anthologies… For me, as I have told him several times, he is a poet. Not because his poetry is the most beautiful in Spanish right now, even if it is, but because he poeticises everything that he writes. If you don’t trust me, just read any of his books, as “Los amores oscuros”, “La coartada de Antínoo” or “La emperatriz amarga” (“Dark loves”, “Antínoo’s alibi” or “The painful empress”).

But in this post I want to talk about another book, the last one that he has written: “La princesa Paca” (“Princess Paca”), a novel that tells the love story between Rubén Darío (the poet) and Francisca Sánchez, Rosa Villacastín’s grandmother, so she also signs the book. It is waiting for me, with a nice dedication.

He is my friend because he is a wonderful person; he is an artist because he writes wonderfully. Don’t take it for granted, it is the book of the year already and it will move you from within, you have my word. And for those who try to write, as I do, just reading his words is like taken a master lecture about working with the language.
